CITB – Grants, Funding & Support for the Construction Sector

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is the Sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board for the construction industry. It works with construction companies to improve skills, increase competitive edge and respond to the many challenges employers face.

The CITB grants programme covers funding for a range of day to day training, including short courses, qualifications and apprenticeships.

There are many options of CITB support available to business including grants to support apprenticeships, short and long qualifications, and an Into Work Grant that funds an individual’s completion of the work experience element of their further education course; with additional funding should you subsequently employ that individual.

Further information about the CITB’s Grant Scheme can be found here, as well as other useful help and advice.

CITB Employer Networks

What are Employer Networks?

Employer Networks are an initiative set up and funded by CITB aiming to simplify the way you get the support and funding you need to access the training you want. It’s all part of the service.

They have two main objectives:

Make it easier for you to access training and funding. The training can be in anything that supports construction employers. These could be the trade skills you need right now or something you’ll need in the future – such as net zero, digital skills or mentoring. And because the Employer Networks help organise it all, you don’t need to complete any paperwork to apply for funding.

To bring together employers at a local level to inform CITB on training needs, to advise how funding should be prioritised and allocated, and to effectively use training provision to address immediate and future skills needs in their region.

Employer Networks have been piloted since July 2022 and have proven to be successful in helping more employers to train and offer them support. Click here for further info and to sign up to your local Employer Network.

CITB also have a NEST (New Entrant Support Team) email  newentrant.team@citb.co.uk who can offer construction companies help to navigate the apprenticeship arena. They will be able to advise how to get on to the DAS, where to find an apprenticeship provider and what grants are available for a Construction apprentice.  Apprenticeship Grants are paid to employers from L2 to L7; £2,500 per year attendance allowance and on completion of apprenticeship £3,500.

If the apprentice has to travel/block release as there are no local providers they will pay travel costs after the first £30 and pay 80% hotel accommodation booked through their approved service. Travel to Train
