KCC – Kent Analytics – Manufacturing Industries – March 2024

This bulletin, produced by Kent County Council, looks at the number of manufacturing enterprises in Kent. It also looks at the number of employee jobs, the value generated by manufacturing (GVA), the occupational structure.

The headlines are:
• 3,130 enterprises in Kent in 2023 were manufacturing enterprises and account for 4.9% of all enterprises. The number has grown by 1.8% over the last 5 years.
• There were 36,000 manufacturing jobs in Kent in 2022 accounting for 5.6% of all jobs.
• Manufacturing in Kent generated £3,512m in GVA in 2021.
• 18.8% of Kent residents working in manufacturing were working in skilled trades occupations.
• 30.4% of Kent residents working in manufacturing were qualified to level 4 and above.
• There were 980 engineering & manufacturing technologies apprenticeships starts in Kent in 2022/23 and 570 apprenticeship achievements.
