Local Skills Improvement Plan
by Sarah Parrish

The Kent & Medway Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) is entering a pivotal phase, and we need your voice.

This November and December, we are launching a series of sector-specific roundtable events to gather employer feedback that will directly inform the next iteration of the LSIP, due for publication in 2026. These sessions are your opportunity to influence the future of skills development in Kent & Medway, ensuring that local training provision aligns with the real needs of businesses across the region.

Why These Roundtables Matter

The LSIP is a government-funded initiative designed to put employers at the heart of the skills conversation. By participating in these roundtables, you’ll help identify current challenges, skills gaps, and opportunities for collaboration across sectors. Your insights will shape a plan that supports sustainable economic growth and equips our workforce for the future.

As highlighted in the 2025 LSIP Progress Report, employer engagement is not just encouraged, it’s essential. The plan’s success depends on meaningful input from businesses like yours to ensure it reflects the realities of the local economy and workforce.

Who Should Attend

We’re inviting employers and educators from the following sectors to take part:

  • Transport & Logistics (including Maritime)
  • Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Social Care
  • Construction
  • Health & Life Sciences (including MedTech)
  • Electrotechnical
  • Creative Industries
  • Hospitality & Visitor Economy
  • Professional Services

Each sector will host two roundtables, one in-person and one online, to ensure accessibility and flexibility for all participants.

What to Expect

Each session will provide a structured yet open forum for employers to:

  • Share experiences with the regional skills and education system
  • Highlight current and emerging skills gaps
  • Suggest improvements and collaborative opportunities
  • Influence the development of the 2026 LSIP

Whether you’re a large employer or a growing SME, your perspective is vital. These roundtables are designed to be inclusive, practical, and action oriented.

How to Get Involved

Visit our Events Page to view the full schedule and register for your sector’s roundtable. Early registration is encouraged.

If you’re unable to attend in person, please consider joining the online version of your sector’s session. Both formats will follow the same agenda and offer equal opportunity to contribute.

Let’s Build a Skills Strategy That Works for Kent & Medway
