On 30 July, the Kent & Medway Manufacturing Focus Group (KMFG) convened at the stunning Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve for an afternoon of insight, collaboration, and forward-thinking discussion. The event brought together manufacturers, engineers, educators, and strategic partners to explore international trade opportunities and the evolving skills landscape across our region.

The session opened with a focus on export strategy and global growth, led by:

  • Lisa Maddison-Brown from UK Export Finance, who outlined financial support mechanisms available to exporters.
  • Ian Manzie from the Department for Business & Trade, who shared practical guidance on navigating international markets.

The conversation then turned to workforce development, with:

  • Chloe Johnstone and Rachel Moon from Kent County Council introducing the Digital Employability Experience—a new platform designed to connect businesses with emerging talent through immersive, digital engagement.
  • Camilla Maurice from Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce presenting the latest LSIP Progress Report, highlighting sector-specific skills gaps and opportunities for employer-led solutions.
