September KMFG!

What a great KMFG we had yesterday at the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham. As well as being surrounded by some fantastic artefacts, jets and memorabilia displayed at the museum we also heard from some great speakers.

Ian Hobbs from MKC Training joined us to discuss how they deliver world class practical, technical and engineering training to our Royal Engineers just next door to the museum. They offer Level 2 to Level 7 training to ensure the engineers can support on deployment across the world including disaster relief infrastructure engineering. Their offer ensures that their students skills rival that of their civilian counterparts and they successfully compete at the World Skills competitions.

Melanie Lay and David Church also outlined the amazing work of RBLI (Royal British Legion Industries) supporting veterans who leave the army with injuries, poor mental health as well as those struggling to find employment. They provide accommodation for veterans and their families, work in their social enterprises and additional employment support. 70% of their employees are military veterans with physical or mental disabilities who supply signage, wood products, printing, mailings and order fulfilment across the UK.

Lastly, Camilla Maurice, Project Lead for the Kent & Medway LSIP updated attendees on our recent progress report; specifically the significant achievements and initiatives undertaken since the the LSIP’s inception and the important work still to come, of which KMFG is integral to. The Call to Action was ‘Get involved’! Employer engagement is at the heart of the LSIP and it is imperative we continue to amplify the voice of the employers in our region’s skills agenda.
