The Kent & Medway Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) was delighted to take part in the Building Creative Futures Roundtable at the UK Creative Festival, held at Dreamland in Margate. The roundtable brought together creative employers, educators, policymakers and industry representatives to explore how we can strengthen pathways into creative careers and support the future growth of the sector across Kent and Medway.

Representing the LSIP, Project Manager Camilla Maurice joined a high-profile panel of creative industry leaders, policymakers and regional decision-makers, including Polly Billington MP, Dina Green of UK Creative Festival, Jo Nolan of Creative Kent and Screen South, and Richard Palmer, Cabinet Member at Kent County Council. The discussion was chaired by Jenny Ross of Collective Discovery.

The event generated dynamic and engaging conversations centred on the future of creative skills, talent development and workforce needs. A strong theme emerged throughout the discussion: collaboration between employers, education providers, industry bodies and policymakers will be essential to developing the skills pipeline needed to support the continued growth of the creative industries across the region.

Alongside the roundtable, the wider festival showcased the breadth of opportunities available within the sector. The careers fair was buzzing with activity, with large numbers of young people taking the opportunity to explore creative career pathways, meet employers and gain a better understanding of the routes available into the industry.

For the LSIP, this reflected one of the key priorities identified through employer engagement across Kent and Medway: ensuring that young people, educators and employers are better connected so that talent can be developed and retained within the region.

The event highlighted the strength of the creative community across Kent and Medway and the collective commitment to supporting future generations of creative talent. The LSIP looks forward to building on these conversations and continuing to work alongside employers, education providers and sector partners to help shape a thriving and sustainable creative economy.
