Lucy Druesne, Strategic Lead for the Kent & Medway Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), was pleased to attend the official opening of the Thanet Youth Employment and Skills Hub on 22nd May, marking an important milestone for youth employment across the region.
The hub, developed in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Thanet District Council and Nelson College London, is the first of its kind to launch in Kent, with further hubs expected to follow across the county in the coming months.
Youth Employment and Skills Hubs are designed to bring together a wide range of support services in one accessible location, helping young people aged 16–24 to take their next steps into employment, education or training.
The Thanet hub will offer:
By bringing together local partners, employers and training providers under one roof, the hub creates a more coordinated and accessible pathway for young people—particularly those facing additional barriers to entering the workforce.
The opening of the hub comes at a time when supporting young people into employment remains a key priority in Thanet and across Kent & Medway. Initiatives such as this play a vital role in connecting young people with opportunities while also helping employers access and develop future talent.
For employers, these hubs offer a valuable opportunity to engage directly with young people, contribute to skills development, and shape the future workforce in their local area.
As the first Youth Employment and Skills Hub in Kent, the Thanet hub sets a strong foundation for future provision. The rollout of additional hubs across the county will be an important step in strengthening local support for young people and ensuring they can access the skills, guidance and opportunities they need to succeed.
We look forward to hearing more about plans for future hubs as they are developed across Kent & Medway, and to seeing the positive impact they will have for young people, employers and the wider economy.
